Stream Overlays

Graphic Design for Livestreaming
Collective Summary
Every Halloween or so, I partner with another creative to play video games from game jam events to an audience. The streams are themed with a running narrative, and while we work together to write a script, I'm the only host of us who can draw. So I draw everything. I am not a graphic designer by trade, but by golly, I've got an eye for composition, color theory, and legible fonts.
My Roles
I concept character designs for streaming personas, design a complete stream overlay package of multiple screens, draw channel banners and section icons, create promotional social media advert graphics, and post-stream "Thank You" illustrations.
The premise is "Coda the Goblin" (me) and "Tasty the Vampire" (voice actor Mike Young) cook up a scheme to enter and win a human visual novel competition—the DevTalk Spooktober Visual Novel Jam—which awards $100 for the Best Stream category. So they shack up for a night doing a "sleepover mukbang" while playing through various game jam submissions for a human audience. I designed our personas, created a seamless background pattern of hand-drawn Halloween-adjacent symbols, created the framed portraits and mantle game overlay screen, and drew a "Thank You" illustration post-stream for our viewers referencing direct scenarios from the recording.
2020 Spooktober Stream
Oct 2020
This time, Coda the Goblin and Tasty the Vampire are banned from attending a local monster Halloween bash, and decide to throw one for just their two. But when Tasty stumbles upon a mysterious grimoire, he accidentally summons a demon who will only leave if they play visual novels from the DevTalk Spooktober Jam. I redesigned the hosts' outfits for a more outlandish outing, concepted and finalized the look for our guest star "Katy the Demon" (animator Jasmine Osler), and created screens that center around a fake sigil in the style of those found in the Lesser Key of Solomon, a grimoire on Hermetic daemonology.
2021 Spooktober Stream
Oct 2021
The above consist of adverts posted to social media, post-stream "Thank You" illustrations that directly reference the narrative end of both the 2020 and 2021 streams, and details of the banner art and section headers that I created for the channel's page.
